The Groom & Bride

Gian Mark

Malapitan

- The Groom -

I met my younger self for coffee today.

He was driven, full of ambition, and determined to find his place in the world. He wanted to be everything—an engineer, a pilot, a businessman—convinced that success meant always chasing the next big goal. Every challenge, every late night felt like a step toward proving himself. He was focused, hungry, and completely unaware of what was waiting for him down the road.

Now, here I am—a little older, a little wiser, and while I’m not sure about everything in life, I’ve come to accept that’s okay. I don’t have all the answers when it comes to what I want in a job or where I’m headed, and I used to worry about that uncertainty. I spent so much time thinking that success was about having a clear path, a well-defined role, a concrete answer. But over time, I’ve realized that the process of figuring it out is just as important as the destination itself.

What I do know for certain, though, is that family has always been the most important part of my life. And though I’m not back home in Philippines yet, there’s something calling me—something I’ve only come to appreciate more as time has gone on. One day, I’ll return home to continue the family business, to take up the legacy that shaped me, that was always there in the background but didn’t quite make sense until now. It’s a chapter I never expected to be a part of, but I know it’s where I’m meant to go.

And in this life, I never saw coming, I’ve found the love of my life—my partner, my support, my equal. She has shown me that life’s real purpose isn’t about striving for goals alone, but about building something meaningful together. She’s been my rock through moments of uncertainty, helping me see that the journey isn’t something to fear, but something to embrace. With her by my side, I’ve realized that no dream is too big, and no challenge is too great—because we face them as a team. With her, the future suddenly feels bright, and no matter where it takes us, it will always be the right place.

And along with my wife, the family’s two loyal dogs are always near us, reminding me of the joy in the everyday moments, the simple acts of love that fill our lives. Together, we’ve created a home—a foundation built not on what we’ve achieved, but on the love and support we give each other every single day.

I wanted to tell him that it’s okay not to have all the answers, that sometimes the best things in life come when you stop searching so hard. That home isn’t just a place—it’s the people (and dogs) who make it feel right.

So, I raised my cup to him—to the boy still chasing, and to the man who has finally learned that happiness isn’t about reaching the destination, but about who you have beside you for the ride.

- The Bride -

I met my younger self for coffee today.

She was in the thick of her grind, eyes wide with ambition and a relentless pursuit of purpose, darting from one destination to another, with just her passport and luggage in hand (and her allowance from her parents). Eager to carve out her place in this vast world, she pondered her next stop—Paris? Vancouver? Barcelona? Hmm... maybe Colmar? Yes, definitely Colmar—straight out of her fantasy book. That place was magical. Her mind raced with possibilities, each new city and challenge a step toward discovering who she was meant to be. She was a wanderer—unsure yet determined. Off to Australia she went, ready to prove herself once again that she was more than just her parents’ daughter, her thoughts a whirlwind of non-stop goals.

As we talked, I couldn’t help but smile at how much she had yet to learn and how brave she was, taking on the world armed only with her dreams. I recalled those days of uncertainty, the exhilarating rush of endless possibilities. It was as if she had no idea what lay ahead—the quiet moments, the deep love, the contentment that would eventually settle in.

Now, here I am—a little older, a little wiser, settled into a life brimming with love and joy alongside the partner I once only dreamed about. I wanted to tell her that all the searching and all the destinations would lead her exactly where she was meant to be, but deep down, I knew she had to experience it all for herself. She has to take the flights, travel those roads, board those trains, and walk that path until her wanderlust calms down.

I reassured her that while I may not be traveling as much anymore, I’ve discovered a different kind of adventure in building a life with someone who understands me deeply. My goals have shifted, evolving from the desire to explore the world to creating a home filled with love and laughter. It’s okay to slow down, to pause and savour the moments that bring joy. Life may not always lead us to exotic places, but it can still be filled with wonder and purpose when shared with someone special.

I want to tell her that it’s okay to miss the travels, to feel a twinge of nostalgia for those adventures. It’s okay to be unsure, to not have everything figured out. It’s okay if she isn’t a hundred percent confident that she will land exactly where she’s supposed to be. Because now, she has someone to share those worries with, to navigate the uncertainties together.

So, I raised my cup to her—to the girl still figuring it all out, and to the woman who has now found her place. I reminded her that every step, every stumble, and every triumph is part of the journey. We are exactly where we are meant to be, and we will be okay. The world is vast, and while our paths may change, the essence of who we are remains steadfast. Embrace the journey, cherish the moments, and trust that love will guide you home.

Our Love Story

Once upon a time, in a world that felt both vast and intimate, two souls embarked on a journey that neither of them anticipated. Hazel, an adventurous international student, was looking for something new in her life out of sheer boredom, while Gian, early in his career, was simply curious to meet new people. Little did they know, fate had a beautiful plan in store for them.

As the world slowed down during the pandemic, their connection blossomed like a delicate flower, nourished by late-night conversations and shared laughter. Despite the distance that separated them, their friendship deepened, becoming a sanctuary of support and warmth. It was during these challenging times that they discovered the joy of companionship, proving that love knows no bounds.

After nine months of nurturing their bond from afar, the day finally arrived when they would meet in person. Their first encounter was filled with excitement and anticipation, transforming what began as a casual interaction into something profoundly special. Hazel, juggling two to three jobs while chasing her dreams in Australia, found in Gian a steadfast partner who believed in her every step of the way.

Their love story unfolded over countless hours spent on the phone, bridging the distance between them. For three years, they travelled back and forth between Brisbane and Sydney, each visit feeling like a moment frozen in time. With every reunion, their connection grew stronger, as if no time had passed at all. Gian became Hazel’s biggest cheerleader, supporting her ambitions to become a permanent resident in Australia, and together they celebrated every milestone.

In the third year of their beautiful journey, Hazel accomplished her lifelong dream, a moment filled with pride and joy. It was then that Gian, with a heart full of love and hope, held a ring that symbolized their shared dreams and aspirations. With a gentle smile and a heart racing with anticipation, he asked Hazel to be his partner for life. In that magical moment, her heart soared, and with tears of happiness, she said yes!

And so, their love story truly began—a testament to the power of connection, resilience, and unwavering support. As they stand on the threshold of a new chapter, they invite you to share in their enchanting journey, celebrating a love that has blossomed against all odds. Together, they look forward to a lifetime of adventures, laughter, and love, hand in hand.
